Starting work this week
Hi everyone,
Just a quick note to let you all know that I start work at Tower Hamlets Council this week as a Senior Committee Officer. The job is essentially a Clerk of Committee position, not dis-similar to what I use to do at Parliament. It's a three month contract which is then on-going. It's good money, and an excellent opportunity to get some really good experience in the Local Government sector here. It's also got a really good long-term prospect for me, so is all very exiting. Work is located on the East side on London, in the Docklands area, which is very commercial and high-rise. But there are lots of really cool restaurants and bars, and I am reliably informed it's a cool place to live.
I start on Thursday, so Fiona and I will spend a couple of days flat hunting and looking around. It's not a part of London we know very wel lat this stage, so its all quite new and exiting.
Other news: It's been an interesting 4 weeks. Have managed to catch up with a lot of our friends, which is good, and do a few things while we've been job hunting. Went to a nice evening at NZ House, and met the High Commissioner. Went to watch a Saracens XV v a World XV, with the likes of Bruce Reihana, Carlos Spencer, Justin Marshall etc all playing, and thrashing Saracens by 50 points.
This weekend ( a bank holiday weekend) we've been out in Wantage staying with my Uncle amd his family. We spent one afternoon in the Cotswalds and yesterday Fiona and I walked around Oxford by ourselves. It is still an amazing place, and I'd still give my left arm to go here. But perhaps in another life... Has been another nice weekend with family, and a nice break from London. But we're looking forward to looking for our own place, and for me starting work this week. Fiona should hear about work this week too, so its all happening.
And next weekend, we're off to Geneva, to watch NZ play Brazil! Can't wait :-)
